The transition period for the current Puerto Rico birth certificates have been extended through October 30, 2010. Old Puerto Rico birth certificates issued before July 1, 2010 will continue being legally valid according to the laws of Puerto Rico through October 30, 2010. This is the final extension of validity allowed under current law. Beginning Monday, November 1, 2010, we will accept only the Puerto Rico birth certificates issued on or after July 1, 2010.
