Child Injury Statistics

Every year close to 1,800 children ages 14 and under are killed as occupants in motor vehicles and more than 360,000 are injured. This is most often attributed to the improper installation of child safety seats or lack of safety precautions. About half of all children under the age of five who die in crashes are not buckled up.

Did you know…

Just $2 a year can keep children safe on our roads and highways. When you purchase your vehicle’s license tag, just add $2 to the total. This $2 will be deposited in the Child Safety Seat Fund. This fund is used to purchase child safety seats for families who cannot afford to buy their own. This is a voluntary contribution. Each year upon renewal, just check the box on your tag application indicating you wish to make a donation. Include the $2 in the check you write and you will have made a difference. The contribution you make will be used only within this county. Many safety experts believe that between 80 percent to 90 percent of child safety seats are installed and/or used incorrectly. Because children are not small adults, they need special protection when traveling in motor vehicles
